A team of police officers from a station in Samut Songkram province were honoured on Tuesday for solving a fraud case in which two elderly people were victims - but the officers refused to accept a Bt100,000 reward.

Police inspector-general General Panya Mamen held a ceremony at Royal Thai Police headquarters to honour Muang Samut Songkram deputy commander Lt-Colonel Nopporn Rermruay, Thirasak Manoson, the station’s inspector, as well as members of their investigative team.

The team solved the case in which the two 70-year-old victims were duped out of over Bt1.1 million in exchange for the promise of a broker fee for the sale of land.

After the victims got their money back, they offered Bt100,000 as a reward to the team.

Social media users complimented the officers for turning the reward down. “I admire the team for working without seeking a reward from the victims,” Panya said.

“It’s good that we didn’t accept the reward because they were victims. I would like police to have this kind of attitude and to have professional ethics.”
