Family and friends of a young Russian woman holidaying in southern Thailand are appealing for help in tracing her after she went missing more than two weeks ago.

23-year-old Valentina Novozhyonova from Moscow was last seen at her Koh Tao hostel on Wednesday 15th February with friends saying she planned to leave the island for Koh Samui, however, her passport, mobile phone and belongings were found by police still in her room after staff contacted authorities.

Staff at the hostel said she checked in on Feb 11 and was due to leave on the 16th. They waited several days to check her room when she failed to return the key assuming she’d gone traveling.

Valentina is 170cm tall, slim with light brown shoulder length hair and has a distinctive “V” tattooed on her left wrist. She normally wear black-rimmed glasses.

Police have spoken to local business owners asking if they have seen the young Russian and will scan CCTV footage hoping to determine where she went the day she disappeared.

Anyone with information should contact Koh Tao police directly on 07 745 6098.

No leads in hunt for missing Russian tourist

Police are searching for a Russian tourist who has been missing from Koh Tao since February 16.

Valentina Novozhenova, 23, disappeared from a Koh Tao hotel the day she was supposed to check out after a week-long stay.

Amid concerns that she might have gotten into trouble while snorkeling off the island, police officers and divers Tuesday went to four possible spots that they believe she could have visited, where the water is about 20 meters deep.

Human bones found by team searching for missing Russian tourist

The team searching for a missing Russian woman at tourist-destination Koh Tao in Surat Thani found five pieces of human bones at rocks under the sea, Surat Thani Governor Uaychai Innak said.

He said the bones were found at the dangerous spot where there is a strong whirlpool and strong current.

The bones were found about seven or metres under the sea and the bones were described to be rather new.

He said the bones were sent for DNA test at the Scientific Crime Detection office in Songkhla to compare with DNA sample of the missing tourist, Valentina Novozhenova, 23.

Marine Police chief Pol Maj Gen Kritthapol Yisakhon said the team also found a green t-shirt and snorkeling goggles about 400 metres from the beach of Ao Chalok Ban Kao where the resort the woman stayed is located. They were found about four to five metres under the water.

Novozhenova disappeared three weeks ago from a Koh Tao hotel the day she was supposed to check out after a week-long stay.

Search For Valentina Novozhyonova Called Off

Koh Tao police have called off the search for Valentina Novozhyonova, the Russian woman who has been missing since mid-February.

Miss Novozhyonova was last seen on February 15th when she left her hotel to go diving. It wasn’t until two weeks later she was reported missing and a search for her commenced.

Divers recovered bone and flesh fragments along with goggles and a vest they believed were related to the Russian woman’s disappearance.

It was quickly ruled out the bone and flesh were in fact not human and DNA test results of the personal items have yet to be concluded.

The mother of 23-year-old Valentina traveled to Thailand in a bid to find her daughter but returned to Moscow after only a short period of time in the Kingdom.
