Phu Rua district in Loei province is one of the best places in Thailand to see cold climate plants. One of the most famous are the striking poinsettia plants. These are sometimes called Christmas trees due to their bright red leaves and green stems. Christmas and the cool season are the best times to see this plant in its full glory. The best place to see them is at Poinsettia Garden which is located near the entrance to Phu Rua National Park. The best time of year to see the Christmas plants is from late November to late January.
